Still trying to get everyone caught up with the McKelvy family adventure to date. I think that we've made it to Sunday. We went to church at Belmont Methodist Church on Sunday morning. Worship begins at 10:00 and, of course, we arrived at 10:05. We went on in anyway because we weren't the only stragglers coming in late. We were able to walk to and from church, which was a treat!! The sanctuary is very pretty, very formal. The service was also very "high church" we used the hymnals a lot and had to do a lot of flipping from page to page to sing hymns, read responsively, and even do a chant of the Lord's Prayer. We sang responses to almost everything. The pastor wore a formal robe as did the student pastor who has been working with the church. The rest of the congregation, however was in various states of dress from blue jeans to casual to dressy. Kind of funny contrast. David and I went to find the nursery after singing the first hymn. I asked him if he wanted to go, and he said yes. Then he told his Dada that we were going to the nursery. We went out the back door and followed kid-sized footprints (contact paper on the floor) to the nursery. A very cute and effective way to show how to get there and back. David went right in and found a Brio train set to play with and made himself right at home. He wasn't worried at all that I was leaving. The nursery was staffed by a volunteer (there were only 2 kids this Sunday) who was very friendly. I slipped back into church and enjoyed the service. We had communion - using the formal liturgy and sung responses in the hymnal. And during the offering time, we made our presence known by dropping the offering plate on the wooden church floor. Yikes!!! Talk about embarrassing! Fortunately no one commented on it afterward. This church has a coffee time after the service. Everyone goes to the fellowship hall for snacks 11-11:30. We met up with the nurse from Rachel's school, who remembered our faces and began making introductions. We met a couple of families who have children that go to the elementary school and middle school we will attend. Rachel made a friend; her name is Faye. Her mom is a free-lance artist. We're going to try to set up a play date for sometime this week. Then the kids left and went up to the 3rd floor for Sunday school (the last session of the school year) from 11:30-12:15. There weren't any boys there Jamie's age this week. I spent the time talking to a couple of moms and asking lots of questions about school and the area.
After church, we walked to a nearby resturant for lunch. I left Tim, Jamie, & Rachel with orders for David and myself and walked up to the house to change a stinky diaper. On the way back down to the resturant, David started running on the sidewalk, tripped and skinned his knee. It's his first really big booboo. He cried when it happened, but was a really big boy and very calm while I got him cleaned up. When we got back to the resturant, our food had arrived . . . Breakfast. Because this place is only open until 1 on Sundays, it only serves breakfast that day. So, instead of a salad, I got French toast. Oh well. It was good. Then we all walked back up to the house. After a quick change of clothing, I set out for my first solo trip in Belmont - to the grocery store.

There is a Star Market relatively close to our house, so I gave it a try. It's been a long time since I've tried to fill a long list in a totally unfamiliar store!! It took a good long while, but I finally got everything on my list and headed home. I actually made it home without the help of the Tom Tom! Yea!!!
